Role purpose 
In this role you will be responsible for ensuring that we satisfy all site certification requirements. You will also collaborate with colleagues in other geographic locations to ensure that globally harmonised processes and procedures are established, embedded and satisfactorily adopted by all relevant parties. Health and safety is incredibly important to us overall which means that embedding food safety awareness throughout the plant is a high priority. This includes management of the Quality team and ensuring that they meet all relevant deadlines which help us to maintain our high standards at all times.

 

 

Main accountabilities

Create Food Safety and Quality programmes providing engaging and insightful training at the plant
•    HACCP and prerequisite programmes (lead the HACCP and Food Safety teams, participate in food safety risk assessment, coordinate the monitoring and verification activities)
•    Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
•    Allergen control

 

Conduct internal audits throughout the plant and implement remediation plans if and as required
•    GMP / HACCP audits

 

General
•    Regularly update and maintain Food  Defense Plans for the site
•    Own Quality System Management (documents, trainings, reporting records, etc.)
•    Successfully manage customer queries as well as ingredient and blend deviation investigations ensuring a positive outcome for all  
•    Partner with certification bodies to obtain  site certifications, discuss audit management (Organic, IFS, Non-GMO, VLOG, Halal and Kosher, etc.) and for any other matters
•    Primary point of contact for local health authorities and  veterinary department 
•    Lead customer audits as well as customer visits
•    Support in Production  hygiene/housekeeping/integrity requirements verification – what does this mean                                                                                    
•    Approve and reject specifications in the in the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system
•    Prepare accurate monthly quality reports 
•    Accurately execute activities linked to SAP (handling of expired materials, batch comments after SLIM RUN, disposition codes, etc.)
•    Successfully manage the Quality department's budget (including annual planning and Capex planning) making wise choices
•    Provide training and guidance to the Operations team to ensure the timely management of out of stock (OOS) material
•    Provide robust end to end compliance and risk mitigation of all product claims made
•    Ensure full visibility / transparency of all critical and major quality incidents, providing effective root cause analysis and subsequent solutions to drive continuous improvement
•    Proactively lead Site specific continuous improvement projects which will drive our quality and food safety performance
•    Collaborate with site teams to promote and improve quality and food safety culture
•    Escalate all pathogenic / allergenic / environmental / finished product hits to the senior management  team

 

Team management
•    Lead from the front by setting a good example
•    Set challenging yet realistic performance and development objectives, providing meaningful and tactful feedback for direct reports
•    Identify development areas for employees and define action plans to help them reach their goals


Food Safety Duty of care
•    Carry out responsibilities/duties according to food safety, legal and quality requirements so as to ensure that our products are fit for human consumption.

•    Comply with all environmental standards, procedures and work instructions at all times.
•    Report any environmental violations or near misses in order to prevent any impact upon the local environment, its inhabitants and Tate & Lyle.

 

Health & Safety
•    Adhere to the safety policies, Life Saving Principles and Stop work Authority, procedures and site rules. 
•    Fully participate in the safety programme, including reporting any concern, incidents or near misses and auditing.

 

Legislative requirements
•    Adhere to existing  laws related to Food Safety and Hygiene
•    Ensure Regulatory Compliance to Good Manufacturing Practices 

 

 

Skills and experience required  
•    Fluency in English and Italian

•    Expert knowledge of Quality Management systems and legislation (IFS, BRC, ISO 22000, HACCP, GMPs)

•    Thorough understanding of processes within the food industry
•    Previous experience successfully leading and managing a team
•    A strong track record of implementing processes and procedures which have led to time or cost savings
•    Experience collaborating global quality team, sharing of ideas, and working towards global harmonization and implementation of best practices
•    First class communication skills
•    Driven, motivated, engaging and enthusiastic with a desire to make an immediate impact
