Loudon Operations Manager




The Operations Manager position provides the technical expertise to maintain, continuously develop, and improve operations in order to minimize cost, and insure the technical means for safe operations and quality products. 


The position is primarily responsible for the day to day running of the Loudon plant: to ensure the organization, planning, direction and control of process & technical changes/improvements and technical documentation for the Wetmill, Feedhouse, Boilerhouse, Refinery, Ethanol, Waste Treatment, Barge, and Specialty areas.  The position provides leadership and support to six (6) area managers, four (4) Plant Coordinators, and a Plant SAP Specialist.


The Operations Manager role is accountable to the Plant Manager for safety, quality, cost performance of production areas, and the talent and development of associated personnel. 





  • Assists the plant-engineering group in evaluating proposed projects, allocating resources and planning approaches to complex projects/shutdowns.  Leads and coordinates efforts of other engineers in meeting goals.  Collects and evaluates information for a unified result or conclusion.  Works within broad framework of Company and plant goals.
  • Communicates with all levels and categories of Company personnel both formally and informally, verbally and in writing.
  • Maintains constant awareness of Company activities and plans.  Actively solicits and contributes ideas for safer, more cost effective approaches or new techniques (continuous improvements).   
  • Responsible for meeting goals within time and budget constraints and for success of activities under their control.
  • Recognized and respected as an expert in several major process areas.
  • Exerts strong, independent leadership.  Anticipates and resolves priority conflicts.  Eager to assist and share expertise.  Demonstrates integrity and upholds the values of the organization.
  • Provides process, maintenance and project expertise, which combines mastery of process engineering with in-depth knowledge of the plant requirements.  Uses established engineering judgment, creativity and foresight to initiate studies, projects and new developments to anticipate and solve unprecedented problems with a focus on long-term technical solutions.



  • The majority of the incumbent’s time spent in planning, organizing, and people development.


Education and/Experience:



  •  A BS degree in Chemical or Mechanical engineering with at least 10 years of engineering and plant experience is required.   Must be organized and have good attention to detail.  The incumbent must possess broad based skills in engineering as well as planning and people development..

  • Proven management, coaching, and organizational skills
  • Computer literate with proficient skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point
  • Effective communications with all levels of the organization- internally and externally
