Senior Research Scientist


Basic Minimum Qualifications:

BS and 9 yrs. Experience; MS and 6 yrs. Experience; PhD and 3 yr. experience

Has broad experience in multiple facets of the new product development, launch, or support process or highly specialized knowledge in one area.  Has deep subject matter expertise in one or more areas and a breadth of expertise in three or more areas.  


Scope of Responsibility:  

Leads or acts as a key technical contributor on projects/experiments/research of significant scope and complexity with very high impact on the business. Responsible for managing all technical aspect of as part of a formal process.   Still developing competency on delivering from start to finish on complex projects.



Impacts the effectiveness of projects across functional groups through measureable delivery of 3-5 technology with high proven commercial value.


Functional Expertise (Technical Knowledge):  

Demonstrates ability to apply extensive expertise with significant breadth or depth utilizing complex scientific theory and concepts, to assignment were precedents typically does not exist.   Demonstrates ability to deliver results where high levels of ambiguity initially existed.


Functional Expertise (Ideation/Innovation/Problem Solving):  

Develops solutions to complex problems that required the regular use of innovation and creativity in identifying and trying new and different approaches.   Demonstrates ability to extrapolate learnings.


Functional Expertise (Customer Understanding):  

Has in-depth knowledge of our customers’ products and available technologies to effectively identify creative solutions that meet customer requirements.  Demonstrates ability to effectively translate understanding of customers need into new solutions and product ideas that deliver value.


Technical/Project Leadership:

Demonstrates ability to effectively lead projects or work as a team member participating in the new product development process.   Serves as a project or technical lead for strategic hit projects.


Communicating and Influencing:

Consistently demonstrates the ability to effectively provide leadership and direction.   Presents research output in formal ways outside the organization.  Communicates and interact with others in a way that builds strong working relationships. Effectively builds rapport across the organization.   Presents at early stage complex or full range of limited scope project gate meetings.


Talent Development:

Supervises technical aspects of more junior personnel and may formally manage more junior personnel.  Delivers formal training within and outside of immediate team.


Organizational Processes and Capabilities (Safety):

Organizes safety programs, coordinates agendas, speakers, I.e. Unit Chair Person.
