As a Global Process Safety Engineer your responsibilities will include but are not limited to the responsibility for mentoring the site teams in their implementation of Tate & Lyle’s Journey to EHS Excellence, with a specific focus on process safety management (PSM) and combustible dust, across our global network of manufacturing facilities.

The Global Process Safety Engineer will identify and characterize hazards associated with processes, equipment, and technologies and work with global and sites engineering personnel including teams from site technical teams, process and equipment engineering (PEE), Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Research & Development, Operations, Business Leadership teams, and Legal to plan and lead in the development and implementation of process safety improvements worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct or participate in thorough process hazard analyses (i.e. Hazop or other hazard analyses) to determine hazard potential impact to the global network with a specific focus on combustible dust.
  • Work with global network in the development of engineering solutions and strategies for controlling physical and health hazards of our combustible dust related processes
  • Work with site Facilities engineering, process and equipment engineering, EHS, and Research and Development to define and implement process safety solutions and strategies for controlling process hazards associated with combustible dust and chemicals.
  • Make technical determinations and recommendations to minimize process hazards for equipment, abatement, and other operational equipment.
  • Identify and implement operational reliability and Process Safety opportunities
  • Monitor and track performance indicators (KPI) that clearly define success for process safety management. Leverage a blend of leading and lagging indicators.
  • Drive closure to gaps in process safety metrics/KPI performance.
  • Leverage internal and external (industry) benchmarking.

Experience/Qualifications

  • 10+ years related experience in Process Safety, preferably in a chemical/food manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Chemical or Mechanical Engineering)
  • Genuine passion and commitment to employee health and safety, coupled with a high level of integrity to do what is right.
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex projects and working with a cross functional team.
  • Must have excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Must be an effective communicator and group facilitator, and have the ability to work with a diverse group of operations and engineers to lead development of viable solutions.
  • Must have knowledge or experience with chemical and safe engineering solutions.
  • Must have experience in Risk Based Process Safety (RBPS) Management including Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) such as HAZOP.
  • An understanding of risk of combustible dust with regard to safety hazards, exposure impacts, and mitigation strategies associated with food industry or chemical industry.
  • Familiarity with environmental and safety regulations and standards as they pertain to food industry or chemical industry.
  • Deep understanding of PSM, OSHA, NFPA, ASME, API standards and codes (ATEX in EU)
  • Must be willing to travel ~ two/three weeks per/month
