Description/Job Summary:

The primary responsibilities of this position are to maintain the culinary center, safely execute technical tasks and safely operate equipment in the kitchen and labs.  This person must have good planning, organizational and communication skills.  This position will be located in the Hoffman Estates Innovation Center.  The culinary technician will assist Chefs and the technical team in prepping for on-site and off-site demos and working sessions.  This would include weighing ingredients, mixing and processing according to instruction using safe, easy to operate equipment.  Cleaning, organizing and sanitizing the kitchen and labs is also required for this position.

 

Responsibilities:

Success in this position would require a detail-oriented person with a sense of urgency and ownership to complete tasks and assignments on time and according to direction. 
 

General Responsibilities:

  • Regular cleaning and organization of kitchen and lab areas
  • Weighing food ingredients
  • Simple food processing such as baking or beverage preparation
  • Run analytical measurements on food products (pH, Aw, Brix, etc.)
  • Packaging and labeling of food prototypes
  • Ordering food ingredients and supplies as needed
  • Assisting with product evaluations and sensory panels
  • Keeping proper records of work plans and completed activities in lab notebook
  • Attend, participate in and contributes to invited meetings

     

    Safety Responsibilities:

  • Complete all safety training and participate in all safety activities
  • Sanitize food equipment according to GMP guidelines
    • Maintain a safe working environment for self and others in the group
       

Qualifications:

The preferred candidate would have a minimum of an Associate’s degree in a science or culinary field or be able to demonstrate an understanding of basic science skills such as weight measurements, pH, etc.  Culinary training or experience is preferred.  Candidates must be able to work in a project team-driven environment, manage workload ad adhere to deadlines.
