Production Planner


Plans and prepares manufacturing production schedules.   Works in conjunction with S & OP, product management, production operations and customer service teams to satisfy demand.  Manage inventory and service levels to meet customer needs while complying with and executing company policies and procedures. Acts as the primary contact for all communication between customer service and operations.  Responsible for solutions for customer’s deliveries, minimizing logistics costs, preparing detailed schedules and efficiently managing inventory.



  • Acts as the single point of contact between customer service and manufacturing operations, helping in setting priorities as well as managing escalations where necessary.
  • Works closely with product management to understand commercial needs and requirements
  • Works closely with the S & OP team to understand anticipated demand and supply constraints
  • Plans and develops weekly production schedules using MRP/Tate & Lyle planning systems taking into account open orders, sales forecast and inventory targets while optimizing manufacturing efficiencies and delivering highest levels of customer service
  • Adjust schedule dates and relative priorities on work orders, adjusting lot sizes when necessary to meet manufacturing requirements and constraints, customer service and inventory requirements and/or to react to unplanned production issues or increased sales
  • Prepares production reports, project status reports and relevant communications
  • Conducts inventory/production reconciliations as required
  • Define business requirements to improve the use of MRP/ERP systems
  • Review customer orders daily to identify any failures and initiate contingency plans accordingly.
  • Review inventory targets by SKU and economical order quantity to adjust production processes accordingly
  • Maintain proper inventory levels and quality per policies and procedures.
  • Analyzes current inventory for excess and obsolete items
  • Develop recommendations through scenario modeling to resolve conflicts in supply and demand.
  • Recommends, implements, and documents new procedures and policies to improve the effectiveness of the operation. 
  • Prepare training materials to improve the effectiveness and standardization of ERP systems use
  • Cross train with other Planning functions and act as a backup as needed
  • Processes paperwork and maintain records as required
  • Performs other duties as required.


    Preferred Skills

  • Strong understanding of the planning concepts of short and long term planning: capacity modeling, MRP, EOQ, inventory projections.
  • Basic knowledge of balance sheet, cash flow, working capital analysis and costs analysis
  • Experience and success in managing to supply chain KPI’s: DOS, Inventory Turns, OTIF
  • Exposure to ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, JDE.
  • Able to communicate complex issues clearly and effectively.
  • Experience implementing best practices and documenting process.
  • Familiarity with reporting tools such as Business Objects or BW.


    Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain or a related Business Degree
  • 5 years’ experience in using MRP/ERP systems
  • Excellent analytical skillsets and use of excel including pivot tables/macro and access
  • Experience in an MRP environment
  • APICS certification preferred.
  • Six Sigma Green certification preferred
