Job Purpose

Management of the Outbound Freight/Transportation for all North America and Import/Export shipments. Includes rail, OTR trucking, air, ocean, and barge transportation modes.

 

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Development and setting of Strategic Vision for the Transportation organization
  • Plan and direct the Transportation activities to support sales initiatives and achieve stated business targets
  • Provide timely pricing guidance to commercial teams to ensure overall margin realization
  • Provide new supply chain end to end design and competitive costing
  • Ensure that required transportation capacity is identified and carrier capacity is aligned with need
  • Ensure pro-active tracking of shipments to meet customers required delivery dates
  • Manage and leverage the T&L Transportation Management System to ensure exceptional service to customers while achieving cost targets
  • Integration of the Transportation team within the global value chain
  • Ensure appropriate rail fleet size to meet the operating plans
  • Contribute to the development and review of new fleet plans, while maintaining cost control and achieving the budgeted returns within the Capital Asset Management process
  • Safely manage the relationship with the 3rd party rail car maintenance shops
  • Recruit, select and develop Transportation employees to ensure the highest possible levels of capability, while contributing and adhering to the Group wide principles for Talent Management. Strengthen employee engagement, development opportunities and succession planning
  • Lead the Continuous Improvement process within the Transportation organization
  • Develop relationships within the political and business circles in the Transportation field to provide access and influence on issues related to Transportation
  • Travel requirement up to 20% of the time

 

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in successively challenging managerial leadership positions
  • Experience in the management and optimization of complex systems
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Knowledge of import/export regulations
  • Transportation industry knowledge and understanding of fundamentals of transportation modes (Class 1 Rail, Air; Ocean; Small Package; LTL; Van TL; Liquid & Dry Bulk food TL)
  • Capable of building and maintaining effective and trusting relationships
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Proven track record of delivery operation results with strong execution
  • The ability to innovate
  • Financial Acumen
  • High energy and self-motivated, and confident of leading change

 

Required Background

  • Minimum B.S. degree or equivalent work experience
  • Masters in Logistics or MBA preferred
