Role Purpose

A recent safety and cultural assessment comparing Tate & Lyle with the Oil & Gas Industry revealed opportunities to further enhance our Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) processes and culture towards how we look at process safety, occupational safety and environmental aspects of our operations.

Tate & Lyle will embark on a Journey to EHS Excellence (J2EE); a strategy developed for the next 3 – 5 years. The EHS Manager will drive and support initiatives at the Dayton facility, in line with global Journey to EHS Excellence, together with the EHS team to improve overall EHS performance of the facility. This individual will work on projects of varying scope that will encompass environmental, regulatory, fire, safety/ergonomics and emergency response matters for a facility with approximately 100 employees and contractors.

The EHS Manager will report to the Dayton Plant Manager.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Responsible for maintaining compliance with all Federal, State, Local and Tate & Lyle Best Practice EHS regulations and standards

  • Lead continuous improvement of Safety performance including :
    • Injury reductions
    • Job safety analysis
    • Ergonomics
    • Emergency Preparedness
  • Ability to work effectively in any environment
  • Lead employee safety teams, coordinate training, perform audits and inspections
  • Provide timely reports to site management and Tate & Lyle
  • Responsibilities also include integration of EHS standards applicable to new and existing equipment and processes
  • Lead Incident Investigations
  • Provide EHS Support to supervisors and hourly workforce
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements
  • Develop, implement and maintain EHS programs and projects to aid in assuring compliance with all Federal, State, and local regulations
  • Active positive promotion of J2EE & EHS
  • Empower EHS element owners



  • Bachelor's Degree in Health & Safety , Occupational Safety or Chemical Engineering from an accredited University or College or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as safety manager/specialist in an process/food industrial environment
  • Understanding of OSHA and other regulatory requirements
  • Experience in hazardous waste handling and working with technical and regulatory data is a positive
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels within the company and organizations outside Tate & Lyle (such as Regulatory Agencies, OSHA)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability to influence others and lead small teams
  • Lead initiatives of moderate scope and impact
  • Effective problem identification and solution skills
  • Proven analytical and organizational ability
  • PSM experience preferred
